Hello to everyone at the Retroist and I hope this to one of many posts cracking my noggin and pouring out the yummy retro goodness within. I was a young, jaded young man when Tiny Toons Adventures first aired in the early 1990’s. I really had little idea about the heritage, love, and what set this series (as well as other Warner cartoons of the time) apart.
Case in point is the Halloween special that aired in a prime time slot in the spooky month of May in 1995 several years after the show ceased production. This one hour special titled Night Ghoulery depicted an opening with a song and dance number starring a wannabe Jack Skellington named “Pumpkin Guy” seemingly from A Nightmare Before Christmas. This segued into several stories with a very nice wraparound faux Night Gallery hosted by Babs Bunny.
First up we had The Telltale Vacuum which saw poor Plucky Duck haunted by Hampton’s vicious floor cleaner. Next we bore witness to other tales inspired by The Devil and Daniel Webster, Frankenstein, classic Twilight Zone, and others. I had completely missed this when it first aired and caught it with the kids this weekend on our local WB affiliate. You may be able to catch it too given the season if you try. If not we have the Youtube to bail us out. Very nice, polished, funny Halloween fare fit for certain stitches from both adult and kids alike.
