Sleepy Hollows

Last Halloween I told you about the many different versions of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow that have been made. These adaptations of Washington Irving’s story, those, are not the only movies that involve the Headless Horseman or Sleepy Hollow. There are several others.

First, there is another animated version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This one is not as good as the Disney one, though it does contain some good allusions to the book.

And there is Curse of the Headless Horseman from 1974. It brings the Horseman into modern times (well, modern for the 70s). The entire movie can be found on YouTube, but you can watch trailer here.

The Hollow also brings the Horseman into modern times. I believe this was an ABC Family movie, and it is way teenie-bopper, but I still kind of like it.

In 2007, SyFy (or was it SciFi back then?) had another modern take on the Horseman simply called Headless Horseman.

Yet another modern “update” (?) is The Headless Pumpkin of Sleepy Hollow. If you think that title doesn’t make sense, don’t worry. The movie doesn’t either.

And there are several more that are set in Sleepy Hollow or touch on the Headless Horseman in some way, such as Sleepy Hollow High. So we’ve got a lot of Sleepy Hollows to cover this Halloween. Better get started!

  1. Alphacentaurian says:

John Carradine had a very Rathbone-like voice there in that cartoon. It’s a shame he didn’t do more voiceover/narration work.

Night Train to Mundo Fine doesn’t count
