Best midnite walk with the dog ever! This show reminded me of a holiday show. Everyone contributing truely made this one fun to listen to. Thanks all.
I was really glad to see a podcast for First Blood. I feel like this film is a social commentary on the way some of the vets were treated during that time. Regardless, it’s a very good film and this was a great podcast! Thanks guys and metagirl ;)
Another great podcast (and with a fun cavalcade of guest stars).
Me and my friends watched First Blood quite often, but when the second came out, it beat records of rewatchability (mostly cuz it was playing on VHS players in all houses, was a weekend staple for a while, then again when movie channels played it again a few years later).
Rambo was more of a joke by the time the underwhelming third movie came out.
So the character was relegated to that era of Vietnam VHS boom, like Missing In Action 1-3 and some others I forget.
But watching this again a few years back, it was like going back to Rocky (1) and realizing the original was a well-made stand-out.
First Blood plays like a reversed-western, where the hero walks into town, but they are the villain and he must remain lawful amidst an impulse of revenge which still kinda makes both parties villains of sorts.
*SPOILER*
I was stunned by the (long-forgotten) single death count of this movie, as the next ones in the series had conditioned us to see Rambo as a killing machine.
*End SPOILER*
@AAS – I like the comparison to a western. I wonder if in a decade or two someone will take that concept and run with it.
Ext. Dusty Western Road – Day
Tortured Civil War veteran Johnny Rambo, horseless, attempts to cross the bridge over Drunk Buzzard Gully at the edge of a town called Hope in the New Mexico Territory….
I went to the store like my friends and we all bought RAMBO knifes! Think about that this day and age. Loved the Rambo cartoon and had a singlr Rambo action figure which were actually very poorly made. First Blood Part 2 was always my favorite!
