Chewbacca’s Head Sells for $172,000

At a Profiles in History auction today, a screen-used Chewbacca mask from the original Star Wars trilogy sold for $172,000.

According to NBCNews.com: “Profiles described it as a the finest “screen correct” Chewbacca headpiece in private hands. It comprises a screen-used full-head cowl finished with period-made facial pieces, such as the front jaw, nose, teeth and tongue. The item also included signed photographs from Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca, and Stuart Freeborn, who designed the costume.”

Unless it came with an authentic laser bowcaster or a license to pilot the Millennium Falcon, I’d have to pass. Still, pretty awesome, especially if you just picked up the Chewbacca Messenger Bag. This mask would go a long way in making my old Chewbacca Halloween costume look more authentic.

  1. It looks like he might have beaten another Wookie a game of hologram chess, who then ripped his limbs off when he lost. Wookies are known to do that when they lose.

I suggest another strategy: let the Wookie win. Always, let the Wookie win.
