The Paul Lynde Halloween Special

Here’s a little halloween special from 1976 (same year I was born). It stars Paul Lynde. While you might not recognize the name, you would certainly recognize the face & the voice. He was a very frequent member of Hollywood Squares, played Samantha’s uncle on Bewitched, voiced a number of cartoon characters (including the rat in the original Charlotte’s Web animated film, and Mildew Wolf, originally of the cartoon “It’s the Wolf”, and later (and more famously) of the Laff-A-Lympics cartoon), and has appeared in many other old movies & TV shows.

This special also has a number of guest stars, including the wicked witch from the Wzard of Oz, Florence Henderson, Betty White, and …… ……. Wait for it…. KISS! Yes, that’s right, you read that correctly. Florence Henderson, Betty White, and KISS, all in the same holiday special. I wonder who was more frightened & freaked out by the experience, Florence & Betty, or KISS.

It’s a shame that they don’t do holiday specials in a format like this anymore, these were just so much fun.

  1. MZA says:

Love the Kiss lip-synced segments full of canned audience response and camera effects. And then the last song is followed up with a Disco dancing segment, of course. This is Kiss at their marketing peek! I think these type of specials aren’t done anymore because today’s talent level is so low and the celebrity ego is so high.

  2. Does anybody else think that when Charles Cyphers (aka Sheriff Beckitt) in Halloween says to Jaime Lee Curtis, “I guess everyone’s entitled to one good scare,” he comes off exactly like Paul Lynd? I do.
