Welcome to the Retroist Black Cauldron Podcast. On this week’s show I talk about the underrated Disney animated classic, The Black Cauldron. The show starts with me sharing a story about a movie birthday party experience I had as a kid. I talk about the movies creation, the talented people behind it, controversy surrounding the film, its reception and much more. Music on the show was provided by Peachy.

  1. I read the Prydain Chronicles in 6th grade, around the time Grandpa died (I remember having Taran Wanderer in the car on the way to the funeral). They had a huge impact on me, but I’ve never seen this movie. Fans of the books are pretty down on it, but I’d like to give it a try.

  2. I don’t think I’ve seen this, since it was on in theaters back in the early 80’s. But it’s been on my mind as something I wanted to revisit. I’ll have to rent it and rewatch it before I listen to the podcast.

  3. I believe there are 2 ewoks that die. One is shot down in the glider. Another is shot on the ground and the other one morns the loss. Saddest thing ever. Still gets to me.
