Universal Monsters Online Is Set To Deliver A Monster Bash This Summer!

Any fan of the Universal Monsters has at one point in their life asked the question, “Who would win in a fight between…”, for myself that question would normally involve the Wolf Man facing off against Dracula or the Creature From the Black Lagoon. The correct answer is the Wolf Man would win. Obviously. But now thanks to the folks over at Bigpoint.Com, this Summer we will have the chance to play out that epic rivalry with the Free to Play Universal Monsters Online!

Players will be able to take on the role of the infamous Count Dracula, the Wolf Man, Frankenstein’s Monster and his Bride as well as other famous cinematic Monsters from the long history of Universal Studios.

Heck, just look at that production art up top! You’ve got what looks to be Inspector Krogh from the Son of Frankenstein below Frankenstein’s Monster, to the left of Dracula you have a Mole Man, the Invisible Man to the Count’s right as well as a Metaluna Mutant from This Island Earth! Of course you can see the Gill-Man as well as the Mummy and the Wolf Man looks to resemble Henry Hull from the classic Werewolf of London.

Our friends over at Bigpoint.Com were kind enough to share these two screencaps as well as this press release:

“San Francisco – June 12, 2012—Bigpoint today released new information about its anticipated free-to-play (F2P) browser-based title, Universal Monsters Online. The game, which Bigpoint is developing in collaboration with Universal Partnerships & Licensing, will enable players to experience Universal’s iconic cast of classic monsters in a highly-competitive Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) setting.

Taking on the persona of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon – among many other notable monsters from Universal’s rich history – players compete with and against each other in a blend of combat and strategic game play.

Like all Bigpoint titles, Universal Monsters Online will be F2P. In-game currency can be used to purchase items such as new characters (after a free-trial period), unique character skins, and special abilities.

Bigpoint plans to begin closed beta testing shortly, and is now encouraging players to sign-up for early access at: http://www.universalmonstersonline.com/

Dracula lording it over a Scarecrow ‘obstacle’.

Frankenstein’s Monster and The Bride having a spat.

So be sure to head over to the Universal Monsters Online site and sign up for Beta access and while you are there make sure to visit the Media section to see some of the Monsters in motion. I for one cannot wait for this title to be released and I’ll be sure to keep you updated on further development!

  1. This really does look cool…at first I was wondering why the invisible man’s clothes where transparent and then a little voice in my head said “shhh it’s just a video game. be cool man!”

Don’t know how you scooped me on this Vic but I’m so damn happy to se this game becoming a reality… And Frankenstein can whoop th Wolf Man’ s hairy tail.

  3. I just hope one of us can get into that Beta, Monsterfink! I do feel like we need to do some kind of Retroist Team Play here though when the game is released. Team Wolf Man VS Team Frankenstein?

  4. Dracula has always struck me as far too effete to do what needs to be done and Frankenstein while strong far too much a simpleton and slow. Mummy too frail. It’s really down to Werewolf and Creature of the Black Lagoon whose thick scaly skin would act as armor and obviously he must have massive strength from having to move under the pressures of the deep.

    I’ve wasted my life.

  5. I’m not sure I’ll agree with you on Dracula being effete, Mandog. But I think you’ve got a fantastic point about the Creature! :)

On the related note… The pinball game Monster Bash was just released on Pinball Arcade app for iOS and Android.

    coincidence i wonder?
