Acrobat Toys

I just had a memory: a plastic Mickey Mouse that could spin around a parallel bar like a gymnast or an acrobat. Thanks to the thousands of people who film the odd stuff they own and put those films on YouTube, I was able to find it.

This one is the one I remember, or at least close enough:

But there were also older, wooden versions:

And this bizarre metal, wind-up one:

In addition to Mickey Mouse, you could find versions of this toy with other Disney characters as well as kids, clowns, cowboys, firemen, frogs, and just about anything else.

Today, these toys don’t look like much. It seems like the fun of these acrobats would be exhausted pretty quickly. But I remember them keeping me busy for a long time when I was a kid.

I used to have a couple of those. Mine were plastic, bought at a local 5 & dime, with generic characters. I think one was just a plastic man, one was a monkey. I kinda recall having a duck one, but I might be thinking of something else.
