John Carter “White Apes” Extended Scene (Spoilers)

[Via] IMP Awards
Walt Disney Studios released this clip from their upcoming John Carter film, scheduled to hit the Silver Screen on March 9th. I really like what I’m seeing here and I think we are finally seeing a bit of that magic they brought over from the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs novels.

Be warned there are some small SPOILERS in this clip!

Even if for some reason the movie fails to deliver, but from what I’m seeing on early reviews this doesn’t appear to be the case, at the very least it causing reprints of the Burroughs novels. I saw three different reprint versions at my local Barnes and Noble yesterday!

Wow – that was very impressive. I read recently that even the John Carter ads during the Superbowl did little to improve interest in this movie. Unless something changes, I’m afraid that this is starting to look like a well done flop. I hope that isn’t the case.

  2. I hear you, friend. They need to get the ball rolling so the film won’t end up going largely unnoticed by the public. I was kind of shocked there were no toys being produced for it…I need my army of Tharks you know!

It’s too bad they seemed to run out of promo money after spending a fortune prematurely before the product could be presentable.

And yeah, this begs for a toy series.

Hope it does well, as it’s my kind of movie.

But I dunno, hard sci-fi/fantasy seems to be a hard-sell nowadays, since the public is not so easily impressed by the pretty pictures (with hefty movie-going prices and distractingly-restless audiences, for the most part).

With the right approach, this would’ve made a killer TV show.

A recent Hollywood Reporter article notes that many folks don’t even realize it is sci-fi since they dropped the “of Mars” from the title. Apparently “Mars” is considered by Disney to be a problem since “Mars Needs Moms” failed so badly. And, “Mars Attacks” wasn’t the hit it could have been, nor “Mission to Mars.” I must admit -until Vic’s link, I wasn’t too sure about it myself. Now, I’m hoping for the best, but with a March 9th release date, they’ve got to do something big and quick if they want to get some attention.
