On Line for Return of the Jedi

Thanks to video uploader and site regular, Duke of Crydee, for this upload that really set me down memory land. It is a news report from the New York metro area that shows people online for the upcoming Star Wars trilogy closer, Return of the Jedi. My family always tuned in for Ernie Anastos and I have memories of watching this gem back in the day.

  1. Cool, awesome video!

I have a unique Return of the Jedi experience. I had my tonsils removed on May 24th, 1983 — the day before the release of RotJ. I don’t remember who, but I was crushed to discover that I was going to miss the debut showing of the final film in the series. To make a long story short, my Dad snuck me out of the hospital prematurely and the two of us saw the opening showing of Jedi (noon) on opening day. I remember having a great time despite the fact that I could not speak, having just had my tonsils removed. After the movie my dad took me back to the hospital and my mother was none the wiser when I was officially released later that evening!

@Flack- what a great memory for you and your dad!

Did I hear the newscaster right? I think he said Star War instead of Wars? Yea, I’m being nit-picky!

  3. That kid’s Return of the Jedi hits close home to me. Whenever I hear a theme song I tend to try and sing along with lyrics that are pretty much just the title of whatever it is I am watching.

When Return of the Jedi came out, a friend and big Star Wars nut in Ohio was going to take a plane trip to California. He told me he hoped they’d show Return of the Jedi on the plane. When he returned, he said that while he was on the plane, the stewardess said, “The movie today will be Return” (he gets excited) “of” (he gets even more excited) “the” (he’s ecstatic)…..Black Stallion.” (he’s deflated). I don’t know how true that story is, but I’d like to think it’s true.
