They Won’t Stay Dead: Ancient Movie Promo Sites

For some reason, it’s been a rule on the Web for ages that studios leave official movie sites up way past their expiration dates. Some are WAY, WAY past. I’ve never been able to figure out why, but I’m glad these time capsules still exist to let us know how far the aesthetics of the Web have come in a very short time (Dig that “frameset” in the URL!). I actually like the Lost World site. It’s a pretty neat conceit for a film done that long ago.

Battlefield Earth –
You’ve Got Mail –
Wild Wild West –
Lost World –
Space jam –
Major League –

Do you know of other movie sites that refuse to die?

  1. I remember the Ravenous movie website being up for many years after its release date, where you could get tasty cannibal recipes. However, when I checked for it again tonite I see it has gone, probably off to consume other movie websites.

But! The official Memento website is still up. Whenever I watch the movie I like to pop by & poke around for more info on Leonard & Sammy. You remember Sammy Jankis?

  2. This site is still well and truly up, just over 10 years since the movie came out. Wow, has it been that long? It’s an interesting site, with some games, tests and cool facts on all things genius.
