Road Games Theatrical Poster (1981)

There are many movies I probably shouldn’t have been allowed to watch at the 62 Drive-In as a kid, I think a lot of these films my Father wanted to see and since I had no babysitter I guess he just hoped that I wouldn’t grow up to behave like the serial killer in Richard Franklin’s awesome Australian thriller, Road Games.

Starring Stacy Keach (Mike Hammer, Escape From L.A., King Lear) and Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, True Lies), the film dealt with a truck driver named Patrick Quid (Keach) in Australia who becomes involved with a hunt for a serial killer after he picks up the hitchhiking Pamela ‘Hitch’ Rushworth (Curtis). I want to avoid spoilers but you can tell by the trailer it’s an 80’s flick.

Cult Fiction offered the film on DVD but sadly I believe it’s out of print and seems to demand some high prices on Amazon.Com. I’ve always liked Stacy Keach and I think he is really hitting his stride as he gets older, even if his work in movies and TV are now mostly character parts, he is always a solid actor.

He has a new film that is debuting on the Syfy channel tonight at 9/8c, Storm War!

I can say in all honesty I’m excited to see this movie, it looks like a ton of fun!

A big thanks to Crime Critics for uploading the Road Games trailer over on YouTube.

  1. Atari Adventure Square says:

This one was a great surprise back in the double-feature days.
It was the first movie that night and left a better impression than the following flick (can’t remember what – maybe I’ll dig it up from the newspaper archives one day).

I can’t imagine being so lucky as to get to pick up Jamie Lee Curtis as a horny hitchhiker in this and The Fog, but after seeing both these pictures, I wanted a car so badly.

Not that it’s the only thing I got out of these great films, but…um, yeah.
