Willard and Ben Trailers (1971 And 1972)

Okay, first of all I’m going to have to admit that I’ve never seen the poster for the 1971 version of Willard before, but now that I have I think it has to be one of the most awesome things I’ve ever seen. Cheesy? Sure…but in a good way, much like the movie itself.

I was introduced to Willard thanks to the Sunday afternoon movie on TBS back in my youth and the hairs on the back of my neck still stand up when Willard shouts the line, “Tear him up!”. Bruce Davison (X-Men) really knocked it out of the park with his performance, you just absolutely feel for Willard as you watch the film.

Even though everyone here probably knows this I’d like to point out how awesome Ernest Borgnine did in his role as the overbearing boss, Al Martin…particularly because Mr. Borgnine is terrified of rats. He has gone on record saying that during the shoot to get the rats to swarm him, they had to smear him up with peanut butter under his clothes. Yuck!

  1. Atari Adventure Square says:

    Great poster!
Willard was described to me by some older cousins, and for years before I saw it, I’d imagine a swarm of rats tearing up humans and Willard as Rat Master, something I kinda envied.

The movie Ben has the odd coupling of cheesy (heh) b-movie content and Oscar-nominated song.
