The Empire Holds Milk

While packing up the kitchen, I ran across these old Empire Strikes Back mugs from my childhood.

Deka released a series of these mugs back in 1980. I have a set of what I would call “the good guy” mug, which has pictures of Luke, Leia, and Han Solo on them.

Deka released at least two other mugs at the same time. One (the “bad guy” mug) contained pictures of Darth Vader and Boba Fett. The other one had pictures of Chewbacca, R2D2 and C3P0. There was also a matching cereal bowl, but the last time I remember seeing it the dog was drinking water out of it.

Although they don’t have any currently in stock, you can check out pictures of all the various Deka mugs and bowls at

The “Empire” still holds water. Something that can’t be said of the prequels. You let your dog drink out of a collectors bowl? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I had a ROTJ one for years, but a short time ago, my parents put it in the dishwasher, and it came out a vivid salmon pink.

  3. Great post, Flack! I had the Darth Vader/Boba Fett mug…I’d like to think it still is somewhere in the house. I need to check at some point this weekend. :)

  4. Like many things from my past, part of me would like to re-purchase the ones I used to have, while the other part of me can’t justify the current asking prices.
