Best Wishes From Bozo’s Circus

I was literally doing some major cleaning and organizing today and found this in a box. It is a 8 1/2″ x 11 “autographed” photo from WGN-TV’s Bozo’s Circus. In 1979 I was a “cast member” and these were given out to those who attended the day’s broadcast. Back then the show was live so I wasn’t able to see myself on TV at a later date. And this was before VCRs. I was nine years old at the time and loved being able to see it. My mom bought tickets in the early 1970s and waited roughly 8 years before she got them.

It was my first understanding of how television worked. If you ever watched Bozo’s Circus, or other incarnations of it, the program aired cartoons throughout it’s timeslot. Since I was there live, whenever the showed started a cartoon or went to commercial the actors entertained the audience. I vividly remember being disappointed that I couldn’t watch the cartoons.

I grew up in Chicago and never got a chance to go. But there was always some kid at school out for the day because he was at Bozo.

I was also a fan of Frasier Thomas’s show where he played classic family films like This Island Earth and Robinson Crusoe.
