Summer Rental and The Great Outdoors are two of my favorites of his.
Both are wonderful and might I add perfect summer movies.
And this makes me want to watch both. I wish they were available for instant streaming.
Great comedic actor, who also impressed me with his dramatic chops in JFK.
Had a teacher who I went to see about important end-of-session matters.
Turns out she was a John Candy fan and we talked about the sadness of his passing and some of the fine movie roles of his.
Had to go then realized, none of the school subjects had been mentioned.
I guessed the lightness of being is more important than term papers, so I let it be.
@Paul I went on a John Candy movie buying spree at some point, so I have most of them (you can get them on DVD for a song), but I think some of these should be on streaming services again.
@AAS Great story and perfect illustration of the man’s magnetism.
One more thing. My Dad’s best friend from childhood wound up being an extra for John Candy on Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. He told us that although Steven Martin was a little aloof and full of himself, John Candy was a really nice guy.
I think some of his best roles weren’t even his starring roles movies. His role in “The Blues Brothers” and his role in “Stripes” are two of his better characters.
One of the oldschool, funny fella that made my journey through youth all the more enjoyable.

Difference of opinion, I think Uncle Buck was more likable, relatable than Del. Neal is a lot more patient than me, because I would have knocked Del out at some point.
Another great episode!
Justin – Neal is no walk in the park either. He is overly suspicious and judgmental, where as Del biggest flaw appears mostly to not be that he is not very self aware (at least partly). I think though you are right, in real life, this most likely would have degenerated into a brawl at some point.
