A great month for Blu-Ray releases. I bought Rocky on VHS in the early 1990s and it was also one of my earlier DVD purchases. I find the tale of Rocky Balboa to be a timeless classic and although some of the movies later in the series are more enjoyable or fun. “Rocky” is still the most well made and most well acted with the most satisfying ending. Because of all this, picking up Rocky on Blu-Ray would be a no-brainer for me, but they had released the movies in a boxed set collection, but I did not really want all the films. So I waited and somehow forget to pick it up in that initial wave.
Recently I had the itch to watch the movie again and I decided to pull the trigger and picked up the new Rocky Digibook release that I saw on sale. Its a pretty bare bones release, with very limited extras, which sort of bummed me out a little once I realized, but once I popped it in, I was very happy with the transfer and I wound up enjoying the film. I think this release, since it is so barebones, will drop in price pretty quickly. So if extras are not that important to you, keep your eyes open and you can get yourself some bargain HD Rocky.
