1980s Bert and Ernie Cake

We did not have many options for fancy kid cakes when I was growing up, but our local Acme market would carry a few boxed novelty cakes that I would dream of having. Yet whenever the the birthday happened, I would come to the table and find some delicious homemade (and therefore lame cake) waiting for me. I kid, they were always a real treat, but I often dreamed of having these novelty cakes for some kid reason that I no longer understand as an adult.

One cake design I fondly remember was the Bert and Ernie cake. I stumbled across one posted on Flickr by Amanda Ferguson, which is what got me thinking all these cake thoughts.
