“I Got the MICROWAVE!”

This will be familiar to anyone who watched a lot of cable in the early ’90s – buy yourself an old person Contour Chair (as endorsed by old person favorite Art Linkletter), and you got, for free, a technological gadget of the future, such as a fancy color television, a video recording thingy for recording video tapes, or as the lady excitedly declares, a microwave oven.

    Once my mom bought a desk from a used furniture store and inside there happened to be a small puffy apple sticker and a 4-ounce weight (the kind used on old fashioned scales). For a while my sisters and I would parody this ad by saying “I got the puffy apple sticker” (in the manner of the VCR guy) and “I got the 4-OUNCE WEIGHT” (in the manner of the microwave lady).
