Remember Peanut Butter Boppers?

Peanut Butter Boppers swept into my town like a tidal wave of delicious. I remember seeing them in the lunchroom as people whipped them out of brown bags after scarfing down their warm or smooshed sandwich. They were the treasured school dessert and I really wanted them, but for some reason, I could never convince my mother to stray from the old Hostess or Drake’s cakes. I think ti was because when we did buy them, they were treats for the whole family and not just to suit my whims.

Here is a great ad for for them that was posted by Jason Liebig (click for a larger version on Flickr):

and here is the commercial that mocked me each day:

  1. Jason K. says:

Wow, that is one snack that somehow snuck in under my radar. Never heard of them. And I am usually pretty good at remembering snacks. Because I love them.

(and Jason L. has the largest collection of vintage packages of anyone I know…I’ve been meaning to invite him over to this site to write up some retro snack articles if he has time…simply amazing collection)

  2. I never heard of those, either. They reminded me of how much I miss Carnation Instant Breakfast bars. Other, similar bars have come and gone, but nothing is quite like CIB in the 80s.
