We’ve had quite a few good articles on this site about the passing away of many vintage movie theaters. But, I’m happy to report that some great theaters still exist and one in particular is keeping the spirit of the 80s alive. Arclight Cinemas, which has theaters around the Los Angeles area celebrated April by showing classic films such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, E.T., and Back to the Future. The Back to the Future screening featured a Q&A session with writer and producer Bob Gale. The Arclight theater chain keeps the movie-going experience a classy (although somewhat expensive) affair. They allow you to pre-select your seat, have ushers that guide you to those seats, and offer a nice range of snacks, including cocktails. My favorite aspect, though, is that they strongly discourage cell phone usage and they have an employee stand at the front to introduce the film. That employee then stays for several minutes to ensure that the picture and sound quality are good. If you’re in the LA area, be sure to check to see what special screenings of retro films the Arclight chain is showing at www.arclightcinemas.com. The Back to the Future screening featured a replica DeLorean time machine in front of the theater. Should you require a DeLorean, this one comes equipped with the handy Mr. Fusion device to easily generate 1.21 gigawatts of power. You can have the DeLorean attend your next event by speaking with the very friendly J. Ryan at www.offto55.com.
