  1. Great find, Retroist!

This sure does make me miss the Saturday Morning cartoons, I know we have something like it at least on RTV…I just wish I could wake up early and make a checklist for what cartoons I had to watch on which station at which time like I used to. :)

This is great and I can’t wait to watch it. I loved these preview shows as a kid. I remember one with Darth Vader in it, but I’ve not been able to find it anywhere, and no one else seems to remember it.

  3. If I remember correctly this special aired during prime time.. I had to beg my parents to let me watch it instead of the normal evening shows they wanted to see.

WOW! I follow The Retroist via Google Reader daily and imagine my surprise when I see my videos in a post! Awesome! :)

Hope everyone enjoys it. I’ve got a bunch of other stuff on the channel, as well as another preview special. I plan on posting a bunch more in the future. Not sure when though. Subscribe to my page and I believe Youtube will send you an e-mail when I add more stuff.

  5. I think this is the special I taped and watched over and over again and it had a retrospective of past Saturday morning kids’ shows from the 50’s and 60’s, most I had never heard of. It aired that Friday night before the season of new shows aired, which was the zenith of Saturday Morning television.

I recall that summer, during the closing credits of some of the cartoons, a voice-over sometimes came on saying something like, “Hi, this Pac-Man. Be sure to watch my upcoming new show this Fall on ABC.” The first time I heard it I about went nuts in anticipation. What was Pac-Man going to look like? Would he have arms and legs? What about the ghosts (not ghost-monsters — who came up with that lame title?)?

I was disappointed a couple of years later when the promised”Wolf Rock TV” didn’t air my area. I didn’t know who Wolfman Jack was, so maybe it was a regional audience thing. All I know is I thought I had missed out on something really cool.

For those of you who haven’t done so, you ALL need to read “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline. Better yet, listen to it on audiobook, as read by Wil Wheaton.

  6. I used to look forward to those preview shows every fall, back when there was still such a thing as saturday toons.
We had wolfrock in our area, though it was a short lived show. I remember really liking it (then again, I also remember really liking the rubik cartoon at the time, but when I rewatched an episode for the first time in decades a ayear or two ago, I found myself thinking “I actually LIKED this??”).
