If you’re a fan of vintage arcades, you owe yourself a trip to Musee Mechanique at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. Not only does it boast an impressive collection of video games from the 1980s, but it also features a variety of games and attractions from the early 1900s. The selection includes retroscope movies, fortune tellers, a flea circus, mechanical organs, and mechanical games. To my delight, I found a 1928 version of “Rock Em Sock Em Robots.” It had a different name and the fighters looked more like silver people. Nevertheless, I like the thought that kids today are enjoying at least some of the same games that their great grandparents did. Robot on robot fighting is a timeless pleasure.
