Dark Skies – The Complete Series on DVD

I love shows about UFOs. I watched the TV gem, Project: UFO religiously and would gobble up episodes of In Search Of. I was thrilled at the success of the X-Files and hoped that it would spawn imitators. It did of course, most of them were of mixed value, but the one show that I thought had the most promise of the crop of next gen shows was Dark Skies – a twisted alt history sci-fi series starring Eric Close and Megan Ward. Sadly the show only ran for one season, despite a fan led attempt to keep it alive (and me yelling at everyone I knew to check it out). So another glorious SF show with a ton of potential was cast to the winds of TV history. Well at least I could take consolation in the fact that I would be able to buy a copy of the show to enjoy and show my friends right? Wrong! Dark Skies, despite a cult fanbase languished for near a decade in a half before the good people at the Shout! Factory decided the champion this little series that “should have” and released the full series run (19 episodes) on DVD.

I just got finished watching the series again and I cannot tell you how disappointed I am again in retrospect. So much setup and so much potential gone….

Well at least we got a great box set release. This set includes the whole original run of the series remastered and also has some bonus features:

* International Pilot
* Cast & Creator Commentaries
* Signal To Noise: Uncovering Dark Skies – An Intimate 3-Part Look Back With Creators Bryce Zabel & Brent V. Friedman & Stars Eric Close & Megan Ward
* The Dark Skies Glossary – Bryce Zabel & Brent V. Friedman Define The Important Terms Of Dark Skies And UFO Lore
* Network Promos
* Original Sales Presentation
* A Never-Before-Seen Proposal For Season 2!
* …And More!

We will never get that season 2, but I am glad I picked this up. If you are a fan of SF and have never seen Dark Skies, you are in for a real treat. You can order a copy from Amazon or if you would like a free lithograph, pick it up from Shout! Factory.
