What’s going on here? The apples approaching the washtub look gleeful, like they can’t wait to take a swim. But the apples already in the tub seem horrorstruck, sinking down beneath the surface.
I suspect that it’s the toothy jack-o-lantern controlling the scene. Is that steam wafting from his opening? Boiling the water and turning the apples into stew? Perhaps he felt that the apples were getting just a little too much attention from the kiddies this Halloween.
I’m thinking the green apples must be on it as well since we see no evidence of their pleading forms in the tub. :)
