I must admit. I was very excited to see Mars Attacks! when it came out. I was still on the long post Batman Tim Burton high and was familiar with the card series on which the movie was based. So with that sort of enthusiasm I could either go one of two ways upon seeing the film. Loved it and wanted to marry it OR kinda disappointed. I went with the latter. I laughed during the film and enjoyed the FX, but I walked out feeling kind of meh, which was weird since meh was still many years away from being something.
Since that initial watching of the film, I have caught it on TV a few times and can honestly say I judged it too harshly. Its not perfect, but its a fun film and one I have wanted to own. I knew that I was getting some sort of HD disc playing device one day and so I waited and I got myself a copy of the film this week. The film looks looks and sounds great, but what I don’t understand is why no extras? The DVD version they released a few years ago had some token extras…why not throw them onto the Blu-Ray.
If you enjoy Mars Attacks! you will probably enjoy seeing it in HD even more. I cannot really comment on the audio, since my audio setup in pretty primitive, but it looked good. If you want extras, you will be annoyed by this discs complete disregard for them. Me I just want a silly movie I can throw on when I want some A-list B-movie fun.
