The Atari 1200XL on Mr. Wizard’s World

Usually Mr. Herbert is spot on when it comes to his science, but he goes a little awry when explaining the Atari 1200XL. When I was a kid I had no idea, but now that I am older, it only makes me sad. But hey, they guy is entitled to a miss once every 50 years right?

Besides the flawed tech, the segment is great. I mean c’mon its an Atari 1200XL on Mr. Wizard’s World! Geek dream come true.

  1. Could you actually explain what he said wrong? I don’t know enough to tell just by looking at that ancient hardware.

  2. I guess I should clarify that it isn’t exactly “wrong”, but I think he fumbled through his explanation of the chips and it was more his presentation style that I though was a “miss”. At the heart of it I think he is correct, but he seems less composed then he usually does when discussing the 1200XL. Maybe I just watch too much Mr. Wizard if I can pick up on that.

I should always remember to just preface by saying Mr. Wizard is never wrong.

  3. Central-Scrutinizer says:

He did sound a little ‘befuddled’… the look on the kids face when Mr. Wizard turned off the computer was like “Hey…I wanna play some more”

  4. @Fraze You are correct, didn’t even notice that one. Just goes to show that Mr. Wizard didn’t mind getting in a little console play between takes. :)
