The headlined a show in support of the Summit County Democratic Party in October 2008 at the historic Akron Civic Theatre (also on the bill were the Black Keys and a solo Chrissie Hynde) — http://randomthoughtsescaping.blogspot.com/2008/10/all-star-akron-jam.html. I was blown away by the force-of-nature energy they were still able to exude at that point in their career. Not surprised at all by the quality of the new song and think your expectations of the new album match mine perfectly.
