The strangest things to come out of the brief Australian craze of the 1980s (“Crocodile” Dundee, Koala Blue, Yahoo Serious, “Crocodile” Dundee II) was Jacko, the spokesman for Energizer Batteries just before they came up with the Energizer Bunny. Jacko was a burly, blond Australian who would shout, “Energizer! Oi!” He was actually an extremely popular Australian rules football player named Mark “Jacko” Jackson who parlayed his fame into a #1 hit (in Australia) and some movies. But he’s still best known, but largely forgotten, in the U.S. for these abrasive battery ads.
