Friday the 13th (1980)

I enjoy “Friday the 13th”, it is a fun slasher film with a great early 80s vibe. Not much to say about it, that has not been said by a million other people, so instead I will suggest an experiment. Ask people if they have seen the 1980 version of “Friday the 13th” and then ask them recall details about it. In my experience, the only thing the casual movie watcher will recall is Jason, even though he does not appear in the first movie at all. Which makes me question whether anybody out there has actually ever watched “Friday the 13th”. This phenomenon can also be spotted in people who grew up in the 1970s and claim they saw every Disney animated classic, yet when you ask them how or where, they cannot recall. I call that phenomenon, “Disney Clip Special Transference”.

  4. Very true! Cool poster, too!

I remember seeing the ad in the paper in 1980. I knew this was going to be a terrifying movie. Didn’t see it till part 2 came out.
