Clean up those Old Computers with Retrobright

If you are a collector of old computers you are probably bothered by the inevitable yellowing that takes hold on even the most well preserved machines. Now this coloring was due to the inclusion of ABS, which makes the case flame retardant. For a long time it was thought this coloring was irreversible, but no longer. Thanks to the efforts of hobbyists, collectors and scientists – the world now had Retrobright.

    HA! You said “retardant!”

I’ve also found that the Magic Eraser (Mr Clean makes ‘em but there’s also generic brands too) works wonders for this stuff. I completely restored my old SNES and Dreamcast that both turned all shades of yellow and orange with just a few minutes of using a slightly damp Magic Eraser. The product is really amazing and one of those ‘too good to be true’ things that really does what it’s supposed to!

I have a bunch of Magic Erasers. I am going to give them a shot this weekend.

Works great on vinyl siding and window frames too.

Hi, this is Merlin (yes, THAT one!). I wouldn’t recommend using Magic Erasers as they are like sandpaper and just sand off the surface. Our process, if applied correctly, doesn’t degrade the surface of the plastic at all.

I actually have my old vic 20 out and was going to use a Magic Eraser on it when I had the time without thinking about how it worked. Thanks Merlin.
