Last night I went off on a little bit of a Mr. Belvedere kick. I watched a few episodes, but then started watching people’s interpretations of the theme song on YouTube. Some are good, some not so good, but all of them are awesome in their own way. I listened to a lot of Mr. Belvedere themes to compile this list – I hope you enjoy.
Warning: Do not play all of these videos at them same time. To do so is to glimpse the edge of forever and may result in Lovecraft style madness.

I just started playing the first theme with my speaker volume up all the way….here’s the best part: I’M AT WORK! lol
Retroist – you’re a sick, sick man.
What’s with the peanut butter commercial at the end of the original? As a kid, I always liked ABC’s Friday night lineup (Belvedere was part of that, right?). I’d go with my dad to the mall and pick up my comics and come home and watch the crazy, family-oriented misadventures.
Anyway, one of my favorite SNL sketches of the 90′s was about “The Guy Who Plays Mr. Belvedere Fan Club,” with Tom Hanks. I tried to find a clip online, but it looks like NBC took them down without adding them to Hulu, so here’s a link to the transcript: http://snltranscripts.jt.org/91/91sbelvedere.phtml
Wow. Who’s the first jackass who sang that acapella version? Horrible!
That show is still my favourite sitcom from the ’80s. And the theme song is pure gold. I can’t believe I actually posted that online. In the end it worked out for the best. The girl I mention at the beginning of the video? Yeah, she totally fell for me because I sang that song. Who knew that singing the Mr. Belvedere theme song would end with me falling in love? It’s a fairytale ending!
Doug,
The Guy Who Plays Mr. Belvedere Fan Club is a classic SNL skit. Funniest line in the whole thing is when Sandler stands up and says, “I should like watching “Mr. Belvedere” a lot, but I shouldn’t have to masturbate at the end of every episode.”
What???? Such a bizarre skit.
All hail Brocktoon! Not the full sketch, but some of the best punchlines from it:
Mark – it is good to know that Mr. Belvedere is still bringing people together after all these years.
