The first mouse pictured above was developed by Douglas Engelbart at the Stanford Research Institute in 1963. The mouse used 2 wheels instead of a ball and as you can see was a bit chunky. It would be almost 20 years before the mouse became part of a standard computing package, when it was shipped with Xerox 8010 Star Information System in 1981.
