Universal Newsreels Available on YouTube

Before we had the constant braying of 24 hours cable news, people got their “visual” news via newsreel. Universal Newsreels were released twice a week and ran in movie theaters from 1929 to 1967. For over thirty years, the only place you could find these artifacts was in the occasional film retrospective, but not anymore. Universal has released 100s of newsreels for your viewing pleasure.

It is pretty interesting to see what people will gravitate to when a collection of this magnitude is released. The video I posted above is the least popular video in the collection. The most popular title is, “Mussolini Executed!“. You can probably guess what that is about.
