Spectravideo’s Compumate Turns Your Atari 2600 Into a Computer

We are talking suburban high tech here! Compumate came with a membrane keyboard and was equipped with a phone jack for use with a standard tape connector. Was it great? No, but I still wanted one so that I could use the their sweet sweet DRAW program. It allowed for very simple animation (9 cycling frames), but I was still convinced I could become the next Walt Disney.

I had one of these. I loved the animation program – it was pretty restrictive with 9 frames – a bit like being able to create a basic animated gif.
