I have a Facebook account and although I have a friend or two on there, I never had a compelling reason to return. I never found a feature or widgets that appealed to my retro sensibilites, until now. Facebook has a new widget , called the Retro Time Machine, that allows you to send simple digital gifts of yesteryear to your friends along with bits of trivia about the gift.

On the surface it sounds pretty cute, but their is something more here. We are seeing the beginning of “guerrilla retroizing”. Whole generations who know nothing of ALF or the original Star Trek are being exposed. And who knows, maybe just maybe, they will like it. Think about it. Even if just 1% of the recipients of these gifts took the time to check out something they read about on these gifts the numbers would be impressive.

We are being given a tool to plant the seeds of a Retro-future. Take up arms brave warriors of the past and throw open your Facebook accounts to the Retro Time Machine and carry our message to the next generation.
