Classic Burger King Ad

bk-ad.jpg

I recently moved to the Midwest. After getting used to snow again I started to explore and was thrilled to find a classic BK right down the block from me. Its not as cool looking as the location in this ad, but it warms the retro-cockles of my vintage heart. These places are like a magnet to me. If more fast food joints looked like this I would be about 100 lbs heavier and dead.

If they bring back the animated Burger King — retro funeral invites will be forthcoming.

I used to have a stuffed Burger King doll from this era. Wish I still had it.

  2. The Retroist says:

Lucky – I had a stuffed Ronald McDonald – which was tough since I was always more a BK eater.

Where in the midwest are you at?

What year was this commercial from?

  4. The Retroist says:

I now live the great state of Illinois. Big change, but i got my seasons back which is nice I had all 4 of them just this week.

I think the commercial is from the mid to late 1960s.

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from my fairly recent home of Michigan! Ahh… I love the snow and winter. It’s nice to have it all back after living in Florida for so long.

  6. Jim says:

I’d say the spot is from the early-mid 70s. I think I got my BK doll in ’73 or ’74.

  7. The Retroist says:

The early 1970s might make more sense Jim. I thought it was like 67-69, but it more probably from 69-72.

Tried to find a pic of you doll online. No luck yet.

  8. Janet says:

I found the a stuffed burger king doll at a garage sale recently, it’s the 1973-74 version. Is this what you are talking about?

  9. The Retroist says:

That sounds like the one Janet. Great find! Do you have a pic?
