“Silence of the Lambs” is just a great movie and I have watched and discussed it dozens of times. I tried to take a fresh look at it this time and I did come up with a couple of things to talk about. Firstly, am I the only one who feels like this movie influenced the X-Files? Did Chris Carter ever say anything about that? When I was watching it, I kept thinking, wow. This is like a really good episode of the X-Files or maybe the short lived Millennium. I guess its the whole FBI thing couple with the gray, washed out photography. Still it is the first time I really ever put the two together.
Another thing I noticed is a sound effect they use in the film that gets recycled. When they are taking pictures of the corpse they pull out of the river, the camera makes this very unusual electric sound. It kind of high pitched. Later that exact same sound is used in for the night vision goggles that Buffalo Bill wears. What is my point? I have no idea. But it is certainly a weird coincidence. Was the special FX guy just being lazy or is their some sort of meaning behind this? Maybe the camera which is just a cold object is sort of like the killer. Seeing the world through a lens but not with any sort of humanity?
Who knows. All I know is, “it rub the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.”
Warning : If you do a search “Silence of the Lambs” on Google Images – you will get a lot of men doing nude Buffalo Bill impressions.
